The Art of Press Brake with Steve Benson – November 12th & 13th

We’ll be hosting a course for local fabricators and OEM’s presented by the renowned Steve Benson. Steve Benson is a sought-after press brake guru and instructor. He’s president of Asma LLC and has over 40 years’ experience, including 30 on the shop floor as a press brake technician, lead man, and department manager. He’s the writer of the Bending Basics column for The FABRICATOR® magazine. Benson also travels both nationally and internationally to teach engineers how to efficiently design for precision sheet metal fabrication.

  • Describe types of inline processes.
  • Calculate and apply bend functions to real-life situations.
  • Recognize where sharp bends are a detriment to the forming process.

  • Explain the 20% rule of air forming and its effects on bend deduction and inside radius.

  • Determine when and where sharps bends are required.
  • Discuss terminology and capabilities of press brakes and related tooling.
  • Select the proper V-die and punch and describe the proper installation of each.
  • Compensate for the effects of spring-back by redesigning parts or selecting proper tools.
  • Discuss the advantages and limitations of the machines and tooling.
  • Reduce the cost of manufacturing tooling because of improved design.
  • Apply form check fixture concepts.
  • Designing a basic form of tooling.
  • Decrease accidents that could permanently damage a press brake and its tooling.
